Tipperary councillors raise concerns over deer wandering on this national route
A Tipperary councillor has called for action to be taken on the number of deer that are wandering on the old Nenagh to Limerick road, especially near Birdhill.
“One person wrote off their car recently,” Cllr Fiona Bonfield told the district council’s November meeting. “They are everywhere.”
Cllr Joe Hannigan agreed that deer were “everywhere” and called for them to be culled.
Cllr Hannigan pointed out that deer were a carrier of TB and incidences of the disease had “gone through the roof”.
District Cathaoirleach Cllr Hughie McGrath recalled that the former councillor Mattie Ryan “Coole” had raised the issue as far back as 2004.
He said the issue might have to go to a full council.
“We’ll get the wolves in later on,” he remarked.
A council official told them that the council did have signs warning about deer and they would look at putting them in place.
