Elected representatives have called for grant aid to allow people replace double glazed windows
Elected representatives have called for old double glazed windows in local authority houses to be included in a grant allocation programme to facilitate replacement.
Members of Tipperary/Cashel/Cahir Municipal District called on officials to consider allocating grants for the replacement of double glazed windows.
The issue was raised by Cllr Máirín McGrath who said that single glazed windows were included in the grant scheme and she felt it could be extended.
DONKEYS YEARS
She was supported by Cllr Michael Fitzgerald.
“I agree that double glazed windows should be included in the scheme. Some of the double glazed windows have been in houses for donkey’s years,” said Cllr Fitzgerald.
Cllr Fitzgerald said that replacing such windows should not be ruled out.
Cllr Mary Hannah Hourigan also supported the call.
Cllr Hourigan said tenants were experiencing problems with old double glazed windows.
“There are problems with leaking, condensation and we should consider including them,” said the Fine Gael councillor.
Sinead Carr, Manager, told members that said there was a huge increase in the applications for the grant scheme.
She told members that they would look at the case of double glazed windows in exceptional cases.
