I got two polling cards for the 2024 Local Elections - can I vote twice?
The short answer is no, that would be electoral fraud, under the Electoral Act, 1963 and would likely lead to a criminal conviction were I to admit it, particularly on a news website that gets well over 2m pageviews monthly.
I didn't vote twice, of course. I opted to vote in Boherlahan at the National School, in the Cashel-Tipperary Local Electoral Area. The other county I could have voted in I opted not to vote at all.
In truth, it's likely my fault I received two cards, I haven't updated my information on one of the Electoral Registers. And did update my information on the other.
But despite blaming myself in this instance, the Electoral Registers across the country are a bit of a mess and instances like this can occur quite innocently.
It will take years to clean them up but people can help too, the onus is on us, to make sure the data is as clean as it can be by making the most current information available to the Electoral Registers.
Use your vote in the 2024 Tipperary Local Elections, be part of something special!
