VEE ROVERS FC
Shanbally United were at home to Cashel Town in the Division 2 Cup final last Saturday week, a game played at Scart in ideal conditions before a big crowd.
This was end-to-end stuff from start to finish and the third third encounter with a fine Cashel Town side this season, with honours even coming into the final, a game that was to live up to all expectations.
The home side got an ideal start when Ben Carey opened the scoring from the penalty spot after three minutes. Cashel Town equalised twenty minutes later and so it remained until the break.
Ben Dole put Shanbally ahead early in the second half but Cashel Town levelled again shortly afterwards and went on to build up a 4-2 lead as time wore on.
Ben Carey came up trumps once more from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining to ensure a grand stand finish.
However the elusive equalizer proved to be a bridge too far for the home side so Cashel Town became Division 2 cup champions.
Well done to all.
Vee Rovers juniors were at home to title chasing Peake Villa on Sunday week last. After coping with this very impressive side in the first half which finished 1-0 to the visitors, the home side tired as the second half unfolded and the Thurles side ran out easy winners in the end.
Ryan Breedy making his debute in goals became the youngest player to captain a Vee Rovers junior side in 40 seasons and he capped off an impressive display with a penalty save.
Rovers followed this up with a trip away to Bansha Celtic on Sunday where their fortunes did not improve either.
With another spirited first half performance, Zac Keating got an early goal we still trailed by a goal at the interval. Bansha Celtic proved to be the better side in the second period and added two more goals to run out deserving winners.
