Kayak for Cancer 2023 is a River Shannon source-to-sea kayaking expedition which will be
undertaken by Gavin Sheehan and Maccullin Skelly with the goal of raising €20,000 for
the Irish Cancer Society.
The trip will begin on April 2nd at the Shannon Pot in county Cavan and goes southwards along the river route until it finishes at Kilrush in county Clare, totaling a distance of more than 320 km over 7 days.
The river is the longest in Ireland and there are three main lakes along the way, Lough Allen, Lough Ree and Lough Derg. The shores of Lough Derg touch counties Clare, Galway and Tipperary as the river flows towards the Shannon Estuary.
Both Gavin and Maccullin have family members that have been affected by cancer in
recent years and it's for this reason they chose the Irish Cancer Society as their fundraising
beneficiary.
With a little over 2 weeks to the event, Gavin and Mac are almost 50% of the
way to their fundraising goal, and are trying to spread the word as much as possible in the
lead up to and during their expedition.
