Tipperary player conquers the conditions and his opponents to win national pitch and putt title

A delighted Stephen O'Reilly holds the cup

Stephen O’Reilly, Hillview Sports Club (Clonmel) won the National Pitch and Putt Championship in St Brigid’s Pitch and Putt Club, Kildare recently.

Stephen is only the second-ever Tipperary winner, following in the footsteps of Eoin Morrissey 62 years ago back in 1961, and who was also a member of Hillview.

Stephen beat three Cork players back-to-back (one of them being a multiple winner himself) to make sure the cup made its way to the Premier County again at long last.

In the final Stephen had a hole-in-one on the ninth hole of the first round and with superb putting in the second round he beat last year’s runner-up John Cahill, Fermoy, by 6 and 5.

He played in the heatwave, which was not easy, and all-in-all he played approximately 200 holes against the best of the best.

Well done Stephen.
