Tipperary County Board confirm Padraic Maher's departure from senior hurling setup

BREAKING: Tipperary County Board confirm Padraic Maher's departure from senior hurling setup

It was confirmed at a meeting of the Tipperary GAA County Board tonight that Padraic Maher will not be a part of the Tipperary senior hurling setup for 2024.

The three-time All-Ireland winner joined Liam Cahill's backroom team earlier this year, after being forced into earlier retirement due to injury in 2022, but he is apparently unable to commit for the coming year due to work commitments.

There has also been a number of changes reported in the setup outside of the management team, and this is yet to be confirmed, but it will be a familiar-looking sideline next year as Mikey Bevans continues as coach while Declan Laffan and TJ Ryan also continue as selectors.

The senior footballers are still without a new boss as Football Chairman Conor O'Dwyer revealed that they are in talks with a candidate about taking up the role, but were not in a position to put forward a name at tonight's meeting. It is understood that Marc Ó'Sé is the candidate concerned as reported earlier today here on Tipperary Live.

Elsewhere, there were other items on the agenda including the ratification of the management teams at minor level for 2024, with James Woodlock once again taking the hurlers into next year's fare in what will be his fourth year in the role.

There has been a change of management at minor football level though, with John McNamara stepping aside and being replaced by Shane Hennessy (Loughmore Castleiney) and Michael Donnellan (Portroe) who will be joint managers of next year's panel.

The U20 management teams are largely unchanged as Brendan Cummins continues in his role as U20 boss for his third year at the helm, and will be joined by one new face with Paddy Stapleton coming in as coach as reported on Tipperary Live last August, while Niall Fitzgerald will also continue as U20 football manager once again.
