Cashel boys raise Blue Star flag to mark Europe Day
The pupils from fifth and sixth classes at St John the Baptist Boys National School have recently completed the European Blue Star Programme.

The pupils from fifth and sixth classes at St John the Baptist Boys National School have recently completed the European Blue Star Programme.

They undertook the project under the guidance of their class teachers, Sarah Costigan and Jennie O’ Farrell.

The boys celebrated Europe Day last Friday by hosting a continental breakfast for all the school.

Phil Prendergast, MEP came to the school in the morning and gave the boys a presentation about the European Parliament.

Jenny Flynn from the Blue Star Programme was also present.

The boys were presented with their Blue Star Flag and caretaker William Halley raised the flag. Well done to all the pupils from fifth and sixth on all their hard work.

The Blue Star Programme is a Programme for Primary Schools across Ireland.

The Programme is a venture of the Communicating Europe Initiative, supported by the Office of the Minister of State for European Affairs in the Department of the Taoiseach and the European Commission Representation in Ireland.

The idea of the programme is simple, to foster better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of primary school children through classroom projects and activities.

This is done by examining four key ares relating to the EU, historical, geographical, cuitural and creative and industrial.
