It's over 10 years now since the Cahir Meet & Train Group was established after the inaugural Operation Transformation programme in aid of Shaun Fogarty fund at that time and several charities have benefited since. More importantly, the group expanded from OT on an annual basis to be a social and running club. Many members continue to keep the social running going by doing the 5km a few times a week while others have progressed as far as running marathons and national records and county medals to their names.

Once again in 2024, the Group will go ahead with another Couch to 5km programme, starting from Duneske on Tuesday January 9, 2024 at 7.30pm sharp so it is advised to be a little early to allow for parking.  It is important to note that the Couch to 5km is not that strenuous but it's not a bed to the couch course.

Cahir Meet & Train stalwart, Andy Moloney says that week 1 will start with 3 minutes walking and then 90 seconds slow jog, 90 seconds walk multiplied by 3 and then 3 minutes walking again. This is repeated 3 times and we finish with a walk. We will do 5km each night but once the 3 repetitions of 90 seconds slow jog is out of the way then it's all walking. Week 2 doesn’t increase much but it's for 7 weeks and the benefits are huge once you get to do your 5 km at the end of the course. The good thing about the Meet and Train group is that there are different levels and everyone struggles together.

So on Tuesday, January 9 at 7.30pm sharp why not come along and try out and be part of a social exercise group. A lot of those doing the steps for January can use it also as its in a safe environment. The only stipulation is that you please wear a high visibility jacket and respect other footpath users.
