Tipperary's Seamus Kennedy is ruled out out for the season as ACL knee injury confirmed.

Two time All-Ireland winning Tipperary hurler Seamus Kennedy suffered an ACL rupture last Saturday evening against Limerick,  Tipperary GAA has confirmed. The St. Marys clubman was all alone, turning quickly on the field when he went down under no challenge on a cold damp evening at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. He walked off the field however scans proved that the injury is a very serious one.

It means that he will miss the intercounty season and is likely to miss the club action too with St. Mary who he plays hurling with, and also Clonmel Commercials who he plays football with. Surgery will be required to ensure he can make a full recovery from the injury.

A statement released by Tipperary GAA said: "As a result of an injury sustained in last weekends Allianz Hurling league game against Limerick. Tipperary GAA can confirm that Seamus Kennedy suffered an ACL rupture that will now require reconstructive surgery followed by a period of rehabilitation. Tipperary GAA, the Tipperary Senior Hurling management and players wish Seamus well in his recovery and look forward to his return to the playing fields in the not to distant future."

Seamus Kennedy first came to prominence during the 2015 campaign under Eamon O'Shea and by the time the 2016 season rolled around he was a regular starter in the half back line for Mick Ryan. That season he went on to play a key role in the All-Ireland victory as Tipperary beat Kilkenny.

The Clonmel native went on to add a second All-Ireland medal in 2019 and he has proved himself a certain starter under subsequent managers Colm Bonnar and Liam Cahill. He is a big loss to Tipperary and his absense will be felt in the half back line and midfield area as well as the half forward line as he has played in those lines of the field most often.
