Ursuline Thurles was proud to host the June Smith Junior (u15) All-Ireland Hockey Tournament on Thursday, April 18.

Five teams competed in a round-robin tournament for a chance to win the coveted June Smith Trophy.

Those involved in the Tournament included Banbridge representing Ulster, Muckross Park College, Dubin, representing Leinster, Kilkenny College from Leinster South, Salerno from Connacht and Ursuline Thurles representing Munster.

Each team had four games with a total of ten games run on a tight schedule.

Thankfully the sun shone brightly and there was a wonderful festival atmosphere with plenty of supporters from each of the teams.

The Ursuline Minors performed very well throughout the day and showed that they are well able to compete at All-Ireland level.

They drew 0-0 with Salerno and Kilkenny College in the morning games creating plenty of chances in both.

Unfortunately, they lost 3-0 to Muckross and 2-0 to Banbridge in the afternoon games to finish in fourth place overall.

These girls have achieved so much this season winning the Munster Minor A Cup for the School for the first time in a decade and holding their own in a highly competitive All-Ireland tournament.

They can be so proud of themselves and this experience will stand to them next year when they move up to Junior (u16) level.

The June Smith was eventually won by a very strong Banbridge Academy who were unbeaten in all four games and so were worthy winners.

Muckross, Dublin were runners up with three wins only losing out to Banbridge. Kilkenny College beat Salerno to edge our girls out and come third overall.

Well done to all involved. It was a great day and all players, supporters and officials left with so many memories that will last a lifetime.
