The apathy many feel around politics will be ignored as they answer the door to canvassers and hopefully the politicians are being asked the tough questions on the doorsteps about daily life issues and not let off with a smile.
Looking back to 2019 to predict how 2024 will go is a little like seeing who won the All-Ireland five years ago (Tipperary) and speculating it has a part to play this time around.
A lot won’t bother voting overall. Those that will vote tend to vote conservatively in rural Ireland so chances are Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil will do well again this time around however the lack of a huge “vote getter” like Michael Fitzgerald, who topped the poll last time out for Fine Gael, may affect all the candidates this time around.
Men tend to dominate elections in rural Ireland too with the percentage of women candidates elected across Tipperary at just 20.0%. That is only eight out of 40 councillors in total. So, is the dynamic different now around Cashel and Tipperary?
