A sensational result in the Cashel Tipperary LEA means three were tonight elected at the Count Centre. Two new Councillors - Liam Browne and John O'Heney - were elected alongside Cashel native Declan Burgess.

West Tipperary was awash with emotion as Liam Browne was deemed elected to uproarious cheers and joy. Friends and family cheered as he was hoisted high and deemed elected.

Declan Burgess was just to his right as the two Cashel lads celebrated to loud cheers but one of the biggest cheer was from the Lattin contingent in the hall.

John O'Heney stormed the stage and was elected in his first election on the first count in what was a superb show of how putting the work in on the ground could yield results.

The school teacher turned businessman was thrilled and thanked all those who contributed to his campaign in any way saying that he was "overwhelmed and grateful to be elected".

The rest of the candidates will sweat it out until tomorrow when the count continues for the others.
