Senator Garret Ahearn has welcomed €185,000 for mobility vehicles in Tipperary. The funding will be offered through Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD.

Senator Garret Ahearn said “This funding is vital for com organisations here in Tipperary who need these vehicles in order to continue offering their services.

“The funding will be used to purchase vehicles designed to transport people who have mobility issues or people undergoing cancer treatments. There are also vehicles for community groups that provide meals on wheels services and also for search and rescue organisations.

The three organisations receiving funding are

Fethard Day Care Centre - €90,041

Irish Wheelchair Association, Tipp South - €44,768

Irish Red Cross, Tipperary - €50,000

Senator Garret Ahearn continued “I am particularly happy that Fethard Day Care Centre has been approved this funding. I have been working with Cllr Mark Fitzgerald and representatives from the centre for a number of months to see this through. The facility provides a fantastic service in Fethard and this bus was needed for the continuity of the service.

“I would like to commend everyone at the Day Care Centre for their hard work on the application and the work that they do for the community. It is invaluable. While this funding will be very helpful the service could not continue without the vital work and determination of all at Fethard Day Care Centre” Senator Garret Ahearn concluded.

“Everybody from Fethard and District Day Care Centre are absolutely thrilled with the news, we would like to thank Minister Heather Humphreys for the funding of €90041.00 towards our new bus and to thank  Senator Garret Ahearn, and Cllr Mark Fitzgerald for all their work on this application,” said a spokesperson from Fethard Day Care Centre.

"I’m am delighted with this announcement. The current bus was on its last legs. So this funding couldn’t have come at a better time," said Cllr Fitzgerald.
