On September 4, in St. Joseph's CBS Nenagh the school community gathered in the hall to congratulate the Tipperary senior hurling team and management on their incredible victory in the All-Ireland Hurling Final over Cork. They also celebrated the success of the U20 hurling team clinching their All-Ireland title with victory over Kilkenny.
They were delighted to acknowledge the incredible achievements of their nine past-pupils in the playing squad: Jake Morris (Vice Captain), Darragh McCarthy, Craig Morgan, Barry Hogan, Seán Kenneally, Billy Seymour, Josh Keller, Michael Corcoran, and Jason Forde.
They also had former students Michael Bevans (Coach), Shane Hennessy (Goalkeeping Coach) and Gary Prout (Statistics) as key members of the management team that masterminded a super game strategy, which the players implemented to perfection. Pio Kearney Games Department Officer for North Tipperary was also present.
The Liam McCarthy and James Nowlan Cups were proudly held aloft to great applause.
The team and mentors were welcomed on stage to great applause, as all year groups cheered them on stage as they were introduced by Master of Ceremony Mr. Dermot Brislane, Deputy Principal.

School Principal Ms. Karen O'Donnell congratulated the players and management team on their successes. Ms. O'Donnell went on to thank all the hurling coaches who volunteer their time and effort into developing the players. She also thanked other members of staff who supervise classes while the coaches are away with the teams at matches.
Past-pupil Conor Fahy aka Dáwna performed his hit single Blue and Gold at the celebrations.
Renowned coach Michael Bevans spoke about the great individual skill that many of the young hurlers possess as he watches many club games. Michael went on to say what he looks out for as a selector and coach is the decision making, team work and to be brave.
Michael spoke very openly and honestly and said that the group of players are tremendous role models and that the characteristics that they embody can be applied to any sport, interest area or study, and to always do your best.
New staff member Mr. Michael Breen spoke about the energy the U20 players brought to the senior squad and the leadership roles that the more senior players assumed, that created a great bond amongst the squad. Mr. Breen stated he has been warmly welcomed by both staff and students since his arrival to St. Joseph’s CBS Nenagh.
