First babies born in 2014 - five on Christmas Day

New Year’s Day was celebrated in South Tipperary General Hospital with the arrival of 2014’s first two babies, born within nearly an hour of each other.

The first baby girl to arrive, weighing 3.2kgs, was born to Denise Kavanagh from Carrick-on-Suir at 4.15am. The second baby, a boy weighing 3.5kgs was born at 5.29am to Amanda Cashin from Glengoole near Thurles.

Overall, there were 1,201 babies born in Tipperary in 2013, an increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, there were five babies born on Christmas Day in Clonmel. The first bundle of joy to arrive was a baby girl born to Agnieska Baginska at 2.09am, weighing 3.7kg.

Later in the morning, a baby boy weighing 4.1kgs was born to Izabella Jurczynska, at 10.12am.

The third Christmas infant to arrive - a baby girl weighing 2.6kgs - was born at 11.25am to Deirdre Bolger. The Maternity Ward had to wait expectantly until nighttime for the final two babies to arrive. Caroline Roche welcomed her baby boy into the world at 10.16pm. Caroline’s infant weighed 3.78kgs. The final Christmas Day baby was born at 10.40pm to Siobhán Kinnane. Siobhán’s baby girl weighed 3.7kgs.

All the babies and mothers are doing just fine, and there were no complications.

Meanwhile, the first baby born to a mother living in North Tipperary arrived in the early hours of New Year’s Day at Limerick’s Mid West Regional Maternity Hospital. Martha Kasinska from Nenagh welcomed the arrival of her daughter Aliza at 2.34am. Both Aliza (weighing 6lbs) and mother Martha are reported to be in good spirits.
