Screening of well-received film on Bridget Cleary to be show in Tipperary theatre

A fireside scene from the film Bridget

After five sell out nights the short film Bridget will visit The White Memorial Theatre Clonmel on Friday December 6.

This is a lovely yet sad tribute to a 26-year-old seamstress Bridget Cleary whowas burned because of her husband's belief that she was a changeling taken by the fairies.

The story sent shockwaves all over the world and indeed the subsequent murder trial in Clonmel was covered by newspapers from every country as far away as the New York Times.

Sadly the portrayal of Bridget as a witch was very much more for the media hype than anything else.
The little village parish of Cloneen/Drangan and its residents felt shame and guilt for over 100 years.

Hopefully, now this film has brought some degree of vindication for Bridget Cleary and some good has come from Bridget.
The beautiful song written especially for the film by Chris Kavanagh and the local actors make this a truly lovely tribute. Filmed by Diceman Productions .Script by Anne Williamson and Brian Clancy.

And the director is Anne Williamson.
Tickets at Ticketsource White Memorial Theatre A question and answer will follow the film which starts at 8.00.
