Future of Cashel Town Hall in doubt

Everybody is hopeful that whoever moves in to Cashel Town Hall will bring people into to the town, it was agreed at the Cashel Tipperary

Municipal District meeting last week.

The offices, in the centre of Cashel town, have remained empty since the amalgamation of Cashel Town Council with Tipperary Town Council, following the local elections last May.

At the monthly meeting of the Municipal District Council that replaced the two, Cllrs expressed regret that the modern offices are still empty six months later. Following a motion put before the meeting by Cllr Martin Browne, the future of the building was discussed. While local Cllrs called for community groups to be allowed use the facility they were asked to wait and see if efforts of the Council Chief Executive, to find a commercial tenant, would be successful. Cllr Browne said two community groups in particular had asked to use the building - Cashel Brass Band and the Order of Malta.

“We are being asked in Cashel why it’s not being used,” he said. “We are in the dark. The closure of the offices has had a big impact on the economy of Friar Street and the town,” Cllr Tom Wood agreed.
