Thurles CBS will travel to Castlelyons GAA pitch tomorrow in the hopes of returning to the Harty Cup final for the second time in three years.
The Mid Tipperary school were in impressive form in the quarter-final last week, completely dismantling a strong Ardscoil Rís outfit in UL, playing some scintillating hurling in the process.
Next up on their journey will be a clash with De La Salle College of Waterford who were comfortable in their own last-eight clash a week ago, thrashing CBC Cork in a strong final quarter finish to record a double-digit victory in Fethard.
Like Thurles, De La Salle has a strong representation from minor and U20 county squads players, with Conor Tobin the most senior figure in the team. The Ballygunner ace lined out with nine of his clubmates in the win in Fethard, while they have a lot of quality in the Hartley cousins (Colm and Dylan), the Power twins (Jack and Shane), while Adam Regan led the way with 1-4 from play in a brilliant individual performance.
Thurles managed to ease to victory without star player Euan Murray producing his best on the day and with the attitude and talent the Durlas Óg youngster has, he will likely be to the fore in this one.
Cormac Fitzpatrick, Cillian Minogue, and Robbie Ryan represent an inside forward line that - on their day - can win matches single-handedly, so the game plan will revolve around feeding this trio as much as possible.
Meanwhile, in the other semi, the heavyweight fixture between St. Flannan's and Gaelcholaiste Mhuire AG brings together the two most decorated schools in the history of Munster colleges hurling, was initially scheduled for Ballyagran, but is now penciled in for Kilmallock at 1.30.
A large crowd is expected at the Limerick venue, particularly on the Cork side, as Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG appears in the school’s first Harty semi-final since 1996.
It is also five years since St Flannan’s last contested the Harty decider. That victory over Christians represented the Ennis school’s 22nd win, taking them three clear at the top of the roll of honour from Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG, formerly known as North Monastery.
