Munster U17 Development Rd 1
Tipperary 1-8
Cork 0-4
Tipperary started their U17 Munster campaign on Saturday 1st Feb with a home match v Cork on Fethard Astro. Both teams are just getting into the season so this was a good match for both.
Tipperary played with the breeze in the first half and immediately put Cork under pressure with ferocious workrate from front to back.
Tipp took the lead with points from Aoibhín Maher and powered on with further points from Faye Lavin, Malwina Dziewiatka, and Torrie Doyle. Aoibhin added a free and Cork were kept scoreless with wing backs Ciara Crofton and Emily McGrath coming out with good ball.
The backs provided a good platform led by captain Kelly O’Dwyer and lots of pace in midfield from Emma Kiely and Eavann Duffy.
After 25 mins Emma Bonner came on for Niamh Manton who had led the line well and Emma tagged on a point with a good setup from Eibhlin Bourke at centre forward before Tipp got the goal their aggressive play deserved from Eavann Duffy. This gave Tipp a halftime lead of 1-6 to no score.
Cork had the strong wind in 2nd half but the Tipperary backs led by Ella Frend and Orla Gleeson put huge pressure on Cork forwards who were forced into several wides.
Keepers Maebh Leahy and Ellen Ryan did well in second half with some dropping balls and puckout pressure that Cork put on. Cork scored 0-3 from frees but Tipp broke at speed with Eavann and Aoibhín ( free ) adding on points.
Full forward Grace Stapleton was a danger on edge of square and won a penalty in 2nd half which Cork saved well. Tipperary kept up the workrate and support runs with Kaelinn Rossiter, Eand imear Duggan up front and Sarah O’Dwyer and Ruth Maher solid at the back. Cork to their credit kept creating chances and scored from play in the final few minutes.
