Drangan man and Fine Gael Councillor Jimmy O’Brien was elected unopposed as South Tipperary County Council’s last ever Chairperson in the Council Chambers in Clonmel last Friday.
Cllr O’Brien takes over the seat from his party colleague Cllr John Crosse. Cllr O’Brien told members that “it’s hard not to feel nostalgic. It’s a day of very mixed emotions.” Cllr O’Brien’s tenure will be the last in the Council’s 114 year history. Clonmel Cllr Tom Atcheson (FG) was elected as Deputy Chair.
