REVEALED: Council voice serious concerns about public speeding through construction zone

The temporary speed limit took effect on 21 November 2025 and will remain until 20 November 2026. The usual speed limit on this road is 80 km/h.

Motorists traveling between Thurles and Nenagh are urged to slow down to 50 km per hour as they pass through the Latteragh Realignment Road Works.
This ambitious project aims to transform a 4.3-kilometre stretch of the regional road, with a €30 million investment that includes purchasing land from around 30 local landowners.
During Monday’s meeting, Tipperary County Council Chair Cllr John Carroll voiced serious concerns about speeding through the R498 construction zone, warning that reckless driving endangers contractors, fellow motorists, and the drivers themselves.

An Garda Síochána will be asked to monitor the area to help ensure compliance with the temporary 50 km/h speed limit.
