Tipperary woman raises over €2,000 for victims of Nepal flash floods

A woman living in Tipperary recently raised over €2,000 for victims of the recent flash floods crisis in Nepal.
Christian Aid Ireland, a charity organisation, had set up a Nepal appeal and thanks to donations received, the charities local partners have been delivering life-saving support, such as clean water, food, health kits and shelter, to families who have lost everything.
In County Tipperary, the organisation wanted to highlight the efforts of one woman who was so moved by the scenes on her television that she arranged a coffee morning to raise funds for our Nepal response.
Sylvia Armitage held her fundraiser in Cloughjordan Methodist Church Hall on Friday morning, raising €2,650 and by early afternoon, she had already lodged the money into the charities bank account.
Sylvia told the charity: “The hall was so busy that several people just came and left a donation without even bothering to stay for tea. Staff from the local Centra shop and the pharmacy also came over to support us.”
Sylvia also thanked her cousin Herbert Armitage, his wife Helen and their daughter Deirdre Ijaz for all their hard work on the fundraiser.
She is also grateful to Gillian and Rev Tom Kingston from Roscrea Methodist Church who came along with some home-made shortbread to support the event.
The charity also gave a special thanks to Sylvia’s minister Rev Denis Maguire for his support for Christian Aid’s work over many years.
