Construction work to close Ballyporeen road for a week

The road between Ballyporeen and Mitchelstown is to be closed for a week to allow the construction of a cattle underpass.

Cork County Council has given notice of the temporary closure of the road to public traffic from Monday, August 20, at 8am, to Sunday, August 26, at 8pm.

This closure is in order to facilitate construction of a cattle underpass on a section of the R665 Regional Road between Mitchelstown and Ballyporeen.

Road to be Closed

R665-51 Regional Road from junction between R665 & L-1406-0 at Schoolhouse Cross, Ballygiblin, Co.Cork - to - junction between R665 & L-1420-0 at Knocknagapple, Ballyporeen, Co.Tipperary.

Alternative Routes

• Traffic travelling from Mitchelstown toward Ballyporeen will be diverted off the R665-51at Schoolhouse Cross onto the L-1406-0 to Kilbeheny. At Kilbeheny, traffic will turn right and proceed north-east along the N8-354 as far as Brackbaun Bridge. At Brackbaun Bridge traffic will turn right and proceed south-east along the L-3313-0 to Ballyporeen.

• Traffic travelling from Ballyporeen to Mitchelstown will be diverted north-west along the L-3313-0 to Brackbaun Bridge. At Brackbaun Bridge, traffic will turn left and proceed south–west along the N8-354 as far as Kilbeheny. At Kilbeheny, traffic will turn left onto the L-1406-0 and proceed to Schoolhouse Cross, Ballygiblin. At Schoolhouse Cross, traffic will turn right to onto the R665 heading toward Mitchelstown.

• Traffic arriving at Schoolhouse Cross, Ballygiblin from Mountain Barrack & all points south & west, will be directed onto the L-1406-0 to Kilbeheny. At Kilbeheny, traffic will turn right and proceed north-east along the N8–354 was far as Brackbaun Bridge. At Brackbaun Bridge traffic will turn right and proceed south-east along the L-3313-0 to Ballyporeen.

• Traffic arriving at Knocknagapple cross roads, Ballyporeen and all points east of there will be directed to Ballyporeen where they will turn north-west onto the L-3313-0 taking them to Brackbaun Bridge on the N8-354. At Brackbaun Bridge, traffic will turn left and proceed south –west along the N8-354 as far as Kilbeheny. At Kilbeheny, traffic will turn left onto the L-1406-0 and proceed to Schoolhouse Cross, Ballygiblin. At Schoolhouse Cross, traffic will turn right to re-join the R665 heading toward Mitchelstown.

The diversion route will be fully signposted. Local access will be maintained.
