Man and woman hospitalised following serious motorcycle crash in Wicklow

A man and woman have been hospitalised following a serious motorcycle collision in Wicklow this morning.

Gardaí in Arklow are appealing for witnesses to the single-vehicle collision that occurred on Dublin Road, the R772 Arklow, Co. Wicklow shortly after 12.30am in the early hours of this morning.

The motorcycle that the man and woman were riding struck the pavement kerb and the driver and pillion passenger fell from the motorcycle.

The driver and passenger made their way home where the male driver, aged in his 50s, collapsed and was removed to St. Vincent's Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

The female passenger, aged in her 40s, of the motorcycle was also removed to St. Vincent's Hospital where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of the R772, at exit 20 from the M11 southbound travelling towards Arklow town this morning, Saturday 30th December, 2023 between 00.15 hours and 00.45 hours and who may have camera footage, including dash cam, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
