A woman has been arrested following the death of a 30-year-old man at a house in Carlow on Monday night.

The man who was the victim of the assault has been named locally as Darren Quigley (30) from New Oak Estate.

New Oak Estate Residents Social Community Centre on Facebook have shared their thoughts following the incident:

"It's with sadness we say farewell to Darren.
Darren grew up on our street Willow drive and the memories all the kids will have .
Darren loved sport, football, boxing, golf and his greatest passion hunting with his dad Tony and good friend Colm Holmes.
We can't say anything to ease the pain to Darren's family .
A Dad to 2 beautiful little girls Ava and Erica who could be seen playing hop scotch on the street with Darren watching over them.
His brother Adam , if ever 2 brothers looked alike these 2 were like twins .
His grieving parents Michelle and Tony .
No parent should see their child pass before them and definitely not in such tragic circumstances.
His extended family and his friends both here on the street, In the estate and across town.
Our thoughts are with all and may Darren find a bed in heaven tonight .
Rest in peace Quigley ."

The incident in question:

A short time later, a woman was arrested in a follow-up operation involving local gardaí and the Armed Response Unit (ARU). She is currently detained at a garda station in Co Carlow.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic and technical examination and the State Pathologist has been requested.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Carlow Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been appointed to support the family.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also seeking anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from road users in the New Oak Estate and nearby areas around the time of the incident.
