Man (50s) arrested in connection to fatal road traffic accident in Monaghan

A man, aged in his 50s, has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Thursday, December 18 on the N2 at Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan.

Gardai have confirmed that they are continuing to investigate the collision between a HGV and a car which occurred at approximately 8 am on Thursday morning.

As a result of the collision the driver of the car, a female in her 30s, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other injuries reported were reported.

A man aged in his 50s was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.

He has since has since been charged and appeared before a special sitting of Monaghan District Court at 7 pm on Friday  December 19.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that the road has since reopened.
