A Moldovan national has been given a three-month suspended sentence at Nenagh District Court for burglary at Kelleher’s Carry Out in Roscrea.
Dumitu Medoni (32) of 28 Cluan Ard Roscrea was charged with one count of burglary and four counts of theft on dates in May of 2022.
He was also charged with one count of failure to appear. Sergeant Regina McCarthy listed the offences for the court.
The court heard that on May 2, 2022, the defendant put a rock through the window of Kellher’s Carryout on Rosemary Square, Roscrea and stole ten bottles of wine valued at €157,90.
On May 3, 2022, the defendant stole € 12 worth of confectionery from the Spar store on the Birr Road, Roscrea.
The defendant was apprehended after a short pursuit but the items were no longer in salable condition.
On May 5, 2022, the defendant entered the Vodafone store on Kenyon Street, Nenagh and took a pair of Galaxy earbuds valued at €219.
On the same day, the defendant stole a bottle of Jack Daniels from Tesco in Nenagh valued at €30.
Sgt McCarthy told the court, the bottle was not recovered in salable condition as the defendant was drinking it when he was apprehended.
Also on the same day, the defendant entered the Eir shop on Pearse Street, Nenagh and stole a power bank valued at €24.
That property was recovered when the defendant was found drinking whisky on Pearse Street.
The court heard the defendant had no previous convictions at the time of the offences. The solicitor acting for the defendant told the court that his client was “drinking heavily.”
The court heard the defendant admitted the offences and regrets his actions.
He had been in custody since July 30 when the gardai served a bench warrant stemming from his failure to appear.
Judge Fiona Brennan convicted the defendant of burglary and imposed a three-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
All other offences were taken into consideration.
