An elderly man, living on his own at Ormond Street Nenagh, was rescued by his neighbours, Gardai and the Fire Service, after the sole occupant raised the alarm having spotted smoke coming from his bedroom late on Tuesday night.
The man was immediately taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick and is receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit.
Nenagh councillor Louise Morgan Walsh, whose parents live on the same street in Nenagh, has praised the emergency services for their rapid response and saving the elderly man’s life.
“I want wish him a speedy recovery and I want to thank the neighbours, Tipperary County Council Fire Service, Gardaí and the ambulance for the swift action taken when the alarm was raised, and to the neighbours who assisted in preventing a potentially fatal outcome”.
