A 51-year-old man appeared in court on Friday 17 October, charged with the murder of Nenagh pensioner Josephine “Josie” Ray, whose body was discovered at her home in Co Tipperary last year.
Hasan Al Gori, of no fixed abode, was brought before Nenagh District Court on Friday morning, where he was charged with the murder of the 89-year-old at her home in St Joseph’s Park, Nenagh, on Sunday, 4 August 2024.
Detective Garda Pádraig O’Leary gave evidence of arresting and charging the accused at 10.04am. He told the court that Mr Al Gori replied, “I know nothing, sir,” when charged and cautioned.
Defence solicitor Colin Morrissey applied for free legal aid on behalf of his client and there was no application for bail.
Judge Fiona Brennan remanded Mr Al Gori in custody to appear again via video link before Nenagh District Court on 23 October.

Ms Ray, who was well known and respected in the local community, was found dead at her home at 91 St Joseph’s Park on 4 August last year, prompting a major Garda investigation.
The case has been adjourned to allow for the preparation of a book of evidence.
