Tipperary community set for long-awaited Uisce Éireann upgrade

Water mains upgrade to improve supply reliability in Ballycommon
Work to replace ageing water mains in Ballycommon in north Tipperary is set to begin in late July as part of Uisce Éireann's ongoing investment in improving the reliability of the local water network.
The project will see approximately 1.6km of old and damaged water mains replaced with new, modern pipes. The works will take place between Maryville B&B and just outside Ballycommon Village, as well as from the Y Junction at Carrick to the R495 at Tír na Nóg in Ballycommon.
The existing water mains have been prone to bursts and leaks, resulting in water supply interruptions for customers and the loss of treated drinking water. Replacing the ageing infrastructure is expected to reduce leakage, improve water quality and provide a more reliable supply for homes and businesses in the area.
Welcoming the project, Dave Murphy of Uisce Éireann said the investment will strengthen the local water network and provide long-term benefits for the community.
"Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we're helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Ballycommon now and for generations to come."

As part of the project, new water service connections will also be installed from the public water main to customers' property boundaries before being connected to individual water supplies.
The works are being carried out by Shareridge Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by autumn 2026.
Traffic management measures will be in place throughout the project to ensure the safety of both the public and work crews. Uisce Éireann said every effort will be made to minimise disruption, with local and emergency access maintained at all times.

The Ballycommon scheme forms part of Uisce Éireann's national leakage reduction programme. With more than 65,000km of underground water mains across the country, locating and repairing leaks can be a significant challenge. However, the utility says national leakage levels have fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36% today, the lowest level recorded to date.
