Fourteen from The Premier County received their stripes from new Commissioner Drew Harris.

Former Tipperary hurler John O'Keeffe and his brother Joey graduated from the Garda Training College in Templemore this afternoon as part of a class of 185 new Gardai who were congratulated by new Commissioner Drew Harris.

The Rossmore brothers, who hurl for Clonoulty Rossmore enjoyed a great occasion with their family and friends after the they had performed the usual drill displays and received their certification.

There were 130 males in the class and 55 females with Class 181 having commenced on January 29th. They will commence their careers in stations around the country from September 21st.

Four of the Gardai who graduated will be stationed in Clonmel Garda Station.

The new members of the Force were congratulated by Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan who referred to the extraordinary buzz which existed in the College, not just because of the graduation ceremony, but because of the first visit of the new Commissioner. 

Commissioner Harris told the new Gardai to be 'operationally honest' and wished them well in their careers, promising the full support of the organisation throughout.

The day was a very joyous one for the family members and friends of the graduates who lined the famous College square hoping that the rain showers would stay away. The weather obliged, by and large, and the Garda Band entertained those present.

Also graduating on the day was son of former Irish athletic legend Eamon Coghlan. Garda John Coghlan from Castleknock, will be stationed in Ballymun, Dublin.

The new Tipperary Gardai are:

Garda Sarah Larkin, from Templetuohy who will be stationed in Dungarvan.

Garda John O'Keeffe,  from Rossmore, who will be stationed in Portlaoise.

Garda David Buckley from Roscrea, who will be stationed in Longford.

Garda Ella Marie O'Malley from Upperchurch who will be stationed in Kildare.

Garda Joseph O'Keeffe from Rossmore who will be stationed in Tramore.

Garda Declan Brislane from Toomevara who will be stationed in Longford.

Garda Thomas Murphy from Rosegreen who will be stationed in Carlow

Garda Stephen Cullen from Roscrea who will be stationed in Swords

Garda Thomas Ryan from Inch who will be stationed in Kildare.

Garda John Byrne from Holycross who will be stationed in Carlow

Garda Martin Russell from Carrick-on-Suir who will be stationed in Wexford

Garda William Tobin from Clonmel who will be stationed in Carlow

Garda Shane Heffernan from Clonmel who will be stationed in Anglesea Street, Cork

Garda Gavin Shelly, Holycross who will be stationed in Enniscorthy.
