Why we should try and save water this summer in Tipperary

It’s important to remember to conserve water, writes Tipperary Live.

In times like these, when we have a continuous heatwave and not much recent rain, we must all remember to do our part and conserve more water than we are usually used to doing.

With the prolonged good weather and very little rain forecasted for Ireland in recent days, we should all stop and think twice before we leave our taps running unnecessarily.

For many people in Tipperary, water is something that is only noticed when there isn't enough of it.

Yet recent summers have shown that prolonged dry spells can place real pressure on local water supplies, prompting conservation appeals and reminding us that clean drinking water is a resource that should never be taken for granted.

With frequent boil water notices and supply disruptions in areas of Tipperary due to low supplies as a result of the hot weather, we all need to do our bit to help minimise these disruptions.

Treating water correctly to make it safe to drink requires a minimum level of water and it is not done when levels are frequently low.

Conserving water helps ensure there is enough for everyone, particularly during periods of drought.

Simple actions such as fixing leaking taps, using watering cans instead of hoses, taking shorter showers and only running washing machines and dishwashers with full loads can save hundreds of litres each week.

Water is one of our most valuable natural resources.

By making sensible choices every day, the people of Tipperary can help protect local supplies, support the environment and ensure that clean drinking water remains more available and less disrupted in the years to come.
