Tipperary rower wins Irish indoor title with outstanding performance

Clonmel Rowing Club’s Kate Fogarty was successful at the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships at UL

The Irish Indoor Rowing Championships took place at a packed UL sports arena. 

Rowers always face the ergometer test with a certain amount of trepidation, as you have to dig deep into your psyche to endure the pain.

Clonmel Rowing Club was were well represented in the junior echelons and Paul Nugent was the sole representative in the masters section.

Kate Fogarty has a great track record down in UL and she delivered another stellar performance in Limerick, winning the women’s J16 1,000 metres race in 3’37”.

She also competed in the 500 metres and 2,000 metres events, where she faced the formidable Grace Faherty from Colaiste Iognaid. Faherty broke the record for the event by seven seconds, with Kate finishing in second place.
In the junior 18 categories, Eimear  Sweeney gave a strong performance to finish ninth.

In the men’s category, Oisin Walsh is delivering consistent results to come home in 11th place, Darragh Noonan was just behind in 20th position and Conor Corbett  placed 46th. Cian Gregory is training hard and he can be satisfied with 17th  place in the J16s.

Clonmel’s youngest competitor was Annie McGrath and she is improving all the time, finishing 11th in WJ13.

The junior men Donagh Ryan, Alex O’Hara, Josh Kiely, Finn Murphy, Sean Fogarty, Conor Slattery, Cormac Kennedy, Senan McHugh, Simon Carlov and Tiernan Gahan performed well and they learned a lot from the experience.
