A Quiet Revolution: The Making of modern Ireland 1960 - 2000

A Quiet Revolution: Ireland 1960 -2000, will take place this Saturday January 18, 2025 from 10am to 4pm at the TUS Campus, Nenagh Road, Thurles, Co Tipperary. Lunch is included in ticket price.

This one day seminar is part of the wider lecture series of the same name looking at some of the social, cultural and political events of the period 1960 -2000 that shaped modern Ireland. 

There is a fantastic line up of speakers including well know modern Irish historian – Diarmaid Ferriter who will be discussing the role of the Church during the period. 

Issues around feminism and journalism will be addressed by Susan McKay, Ireland’s current and first female press Ombudsperson. 

And Tipperary’s own Martin Mansergh will look at the political events during the period. The afternoon session will allow time for audience questions.

Admission is €50, cash only on the day or you can purchase tickets in advance on EventbritePlease note there is a booking fee if using Eventbrite

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • 9am -10am Registration,  Tea/Coffee
  • 10am -11am Susan McKay
  • 11am -12 noon – Martin Mansergh
  • 12noon – 1pm  - Diarmaid Ferriter
  • Lunch (soup and sandwiches) will be provided from 1-2pm
  • 2pm – 3.30pm Pat Leahy, Political Editor of The Irish Times will lead a session with audience participation and the three speakers.
  • Event will finish at 4pm.
