Scoil Angela Ursuline - a mixed primary school with a wide range of facilities

Scoil Angela offers a broad curriculum with a special emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. We have teachers trained in the Reading Recovery Programme and all staff are trained in Talk Boost - a Language Intervention Programme for 4-7-year olds.

Our Special Education Team supports classroom teachers on a daily basis with various intervention programmes – Literacy Lift Off, Guided Reading, Mata sa Ranga, Ready Set Maths and Aistear.

We have teachers on staff trained to deliver the ‘Friends for Life’ Programme. This is a school based positive mental health programme for all children. It helps them to develop effective strategies to deal with worry, stress and change, and teaches the skills required to reduce anxiety and promote resilience. Our Junior and Senior Assemblies also seek to develop the skills of resilience, with the children becoming aware of the ability to ‘bounce back’ from daily challenges.

Music and performance are especially important in Scoil Angela. We joined the Peace Proms Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland Music Programme which promotes Peace, Unity, Tolerance and Harmony and our senior choir has performed with them on three momentous occasions. We are proud of our Music tradition and we love performing on our impressive stage!

Our recent Christmas concert was superb and preparations are already underway for our Spring Concert! We are thrilled to be part of the Music Generation programme in Co. Tipperary and our children are loving their weekly music lessons with their lovely tutor Avril. Every child in junior infants, senior infants and 1st class get access to this music tuition! This wonderful programme is being extended this year to instrumental tuition and so all 3rd class students will commence Ukulele lessons shortly.

‘Operation Scoil Angela’ is an activity based whole school initiative that promotes exercise, sport, health and well-being in our pupil’s everyday school experience and we are extremely proud of our Active Flag. 

Our U13 footballers were County finalists this year in the Cuman na mBun games and we are looking forward to the upcoming Spar FAI Primary School 5s.

This year we introduced Futsal which can be played indoors or outdoors and it has become a much-loved activity for our boys and girls. 

The Daily Mile Challenge in Tipperary was launched in Scoil Angela by Catríona McKiernan and it has become a regular activity in our school week. The ongoing challenge for our active school committee is to find interesting and exciting ways to bring energy to our school day because active children are happy learners!

We have a strong interest in Science and Technology in Scoil Angela. It is great fun and exciting. Massive congratulations to our group of 6th class young scientists who represented our school in the Intel Mini Scientist Regional Final in Shannon recently. They were successful and are now through to the National Finals in Maynooth with their excellent project about a hydraulic powered digger. 

We wish our girls the very best of luck as they bring their project to the finals on February 22nd.
