RIP: Former Tipperary councillor passes away suddenly after short illness

Tributes have been paid following the passing of Joe Bourke, Clonmore, Templemore, county Tipperary, on the 25th of February 2025

Tributes have been paid following the passing of former Tipperary councillor Joe Bourke of Clonmore, Templemore, on the 25th of February 2025, peacefully after a short illness very bravely borne.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Veronica, parents John and Peg and father-in-law Martin.

Deeply regretted by his heartbroken children, Erin, Erica and Joseph, brothers Johnny, Tom, Philly, Paddy, Seamus and Martin, mother-in-law Liz, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

In 2016, the Fine Gael councillor was elected Mayor of the Thurles-Templemore Municipal District. 

In 2019, in a surprise move, he pulled out of the Local Elections in May of that year. 

The Templemore councillor did not contest the party's selection convention having made way for the return of party stalwart, former Minister and TD Noel Coonan.

Joe was a well-respected and much-loved politician in the Templemore area and further afield. 

Reposing in Grey’s Funeral Home, Templemore (Eircode E41 TR83) this Thursday evening the 27th of February from 4pm to 8pm.

Requiem Mass in St Anne’s Church, Clonmore on Friday at 12 noon.

Interment in St Joseph’s Cemetery Templemore afterwards.
