St. Joseph's Templemore pupils who collectively gathered 116 shoeboxes for Team Hope. They can be very proud of the difference they have made to many children this Christmas.
This coming Friday night, December 8th, will see the official switch on of the town’s new Christmas lights. This will be an occasion for all the family with music and singing from 6.45pm. The local Parish Choir will attend along with the Folk Group, Children’s Choir, Killea Choir, Clonmore Choir and Thomas Mac Donagh Pipe Band. Santa will also make an appearance with sweets and treats for all the kids.
We are delighted to announce that All-Ireland winning duo Maria Curley and Elaine Fitzpatrick will be on hand to do the honours so please do make the effort to come out and get the festive season off to a great start.
TCDA (Templemore Community Development Association) would like to publicly express their thanks to Tipperary County Council for all their assistance on this project. Starting with a blank canvas both parties met on numerous occasions eventually agreeing on a plan which we hope will be appealing to the majority.
The lights will focus on the main thoroughfare through the town with pole features and white LED icicle lighting replacing the traditional multi-coloured string lighting. As all the lights are brand new, our budget restricted us from lighting up the streets off the square but it is envisaged that this will be achieved in the years ahead.
Remember its only year one of a new project so we ask the people of the town to be patient and let it develop in time.
The best thing we can all do is turn up at the Town Hall on Friday evening at 7pm and support this new initiative. Bring your Santa Hats, join in the singing and get Christmas 2017 off to a flying start. See you all outside the Town Hall. Parents, please accompany your children and keep them safe near the roadside.
Christmas Shopping in Templemore
The new lighting will be twinkling from Friday, and the shopping countdown has already begun. Let’s hope that everybody will make a special effort this year to support the local shops and businesses in Templemore. These shops and businesses are the ones that clubs and organisations make repeated calls to during the year for sponsorship for various events etc., and they are always so supportive of all charitable and voluntary organisations in the town. Not alone do they come up trumps, but our local shops give quality service and valuable employment in our town and the surrounding areas. If you need a break from shopping, have lunch or a coffee, or take a short walk around our beautiful park while the children check out the Fairy Trail. And guess what? Parking in the Town Park is always free, and it’s only 2 minutes from the shops. In line with other towns in the county can we assume that we have general free parking on the Saturdays in December ??
Christmas Day Swim
Volunteer swimmers are hopefully now gearing themselves up for the Annual Christmas Day Swim in Templemore Town Park Lake. The “Swim”, timed for 12.15 has been taking place now for many years with up to thirty brave swimmers taking the plunge last year. Sponsorship Cards are available from Robbie Ingram or at Peters Fruit & Veg. If you would like to add your name to the list of swimmers this year, or for any information on the Swim please get in touch with Dorothy Bradish (087-9926631). All proceeds in aid of North Tipperary Hospice.
