St Colmcille's National School - ‘Oh the places you will go’ Dr. Seuss Our mural is not only inspired by Dr. Seuss but by our own school and the journey that each child goes on from the moment they enter in 1st class until they leave us in 6th class. The base of our mural is the top of our own school building where this journey begins. Through visiting and connecting with our locality our students learn so much more about the history of our beautiful town, church and park, flora and fauna, minibeasts, map reading etc. Through this journey they achieve a great sense of belonging and pride. We have included each element of our crest into our mural which represents our many talents such as reading, sport, music and art. We are very lucky to be part of a town which develops these talents further. Through reading and discussion our students go on an imaginative journey to further corners of the world, visiting the round towers of Ireland, the pyramids of Egypt and the Eiffel tower of France. Our mural reminds us all that we have so much to be grateful for, not just in our beautiful locality but in the world all around us. It also reminds us that no matter where we travel or visit on our journeys there is no place like home. Returning to normality in our community, the sun and sunflower in our mural represents brightness and positivity for the future of all who spend time in our town and surroundings. We are so proud of all of our students who worked on this project. We would also like to express our thanks to our past pupil Roy Doran for sharing his amazing talents since he began his journey with us. We appreciate all his guidance, patience and hard work on this project. He is truly an inspiration for all our students. We would like to thank Saoirse Faherty a TY student from Our Lady’s who also was willing to share her talents with us to complete this project. We are so grateful for the Lions club for giving us this opportunity to share our talents.
