The late Glen Hansard's life and music celebrated at Carrick-on-Suir tribute night

The tribute night to the Oscar-winning singer, songwriter and musician was organised by the Friends of Bridgewater House Committee
A night of music, song and poetry in memory of the late Oscar-winning musician, singer and songwriter Glen Hansard was hosted in the beautiful surroundings of Ormond Castle's courtyard.
The outdoor tribute event on October 10 was organised by the Friends of Bridgewater House Committee and attended by 70 people in honour of the renowned Dubliner, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident in July at the age of 56.
It featured performances from singers Ruairi De Leaster and Chloe Young, mandolin and guitar player Richie Delahunty and poetry readings from Bridgewater House residents Habibba Trad and Samuel Aina.
Hansard's Oscar-winning song Falling Slowly was sung by Chloe Young and Ruairi De Leaster and Chloe also sang The Parting Glass solo.
Habibba Trad read a poem called Come to Me with Beauty written by Glen Hansard's wife, Marie Sarista, and shared at his funeral, while Samuel Anina read Martin Quinn's tribute poem to Glen called The Song Goes On.
In her welcome speech, Martina Walsh of the Friends of Bridgewater House Committee, said they were gathered to celebrate the wonderful music of Glen Hansard and his band, The Frames.

“Glen’s music touched the hearts of so many people, and tonight is about coming together, sharing memories and enjoying the songs that meant so much to us all.
“Following Glen’s sudden passing, I felt a tribute here in the castle grounds would be a lovely way to honour his memory through music, friendship and community — the very things he believed in.”
Martina, who is Bridgewater House Direct Provision Centre's community liaison officer, said she was proud to have the centre's residents taking part in the tribute night, reflecting the importance of inclusion and bringing people from different backgrounds together.
The tribute night was not a ticketed event but attendees were invited to make a donation towards a benefit night for Carrick-on-Suir Day Care Centre at The Old Mill Pub in Carrick on October 31.
People attending the tribute night were treated to teas and coffees. The event was live-streamed and can be viewed on YouTube.
