Alison Fitzgerald, of the Ursuline class of 2024, is this year’s recipient of the Dr Aisling Butler Memorial Bursary.
She received this generous gift towards her medical studies at the opening of the year assembly on Friday, 20 September.
Dr Aisling’s mother, Evelyn spoke about the beautiful person Aisling was and her great love of medicine.
The Bursary is to honour her short but dedicated career as a doctor.
Aisling died in the Air France disaster, returning home after a holiday in Brazil with friends Eithne and Jane. She was only 26.
She was a past pupil of the Ursuline Convent Thurles and her parents recall that part of Aisling’s life in secondary school as a very happy one.
Alison, accompanied by her parents and twin sister Robbyn, thanked John and Evelyn Butler for their generosity.
She also read a prayer in memory of Dr Aisling. Alison has started her studies in Medicine at UCD, while her sister Robbyn has begun her undergraduate in Law and Irish at UCC.
Best of luck to both of them in third level and to all the Ursuline class of 2024 who have embarked on further study, work or travel.
