Tipperary County Council have approved the application to build an anaerobic digestion plant at Killoran in Moyne, Thurles.

The application, made by Nua Bioenergy Limited, was submitted in November 2024.

The proposal includes the construction of four digester tanks, three secondary digester tanks, four feed hoppers, four technical rooms, and two biogas conditioning units.

An anaerobic digestion (AD) plant is a facility that converts biodegradable organic waste into biogas and digestate.

Biogas is a renewable energy source that can be used for heating, electricity generation, or converted into biomethane for use in transport.

The decision from the council was made on Tuesday, May 6, and comes with 14 conditions attached.
