Thurles Musical Society held their much-anticipated 75th Anniversary Gala Ball in the Anner Hotel on Saturday, January 24.

They say it proved to be an unforgettable night, with members past and present dancing the night away to the amazing Papa Zitas.

Laughs were shared, stories retold, and those they have lost along the way were remembered with great fondness.

And of course the night ended in great TMS style with a song-song to bring the house down.

The society wishes to offer a great thanks to the Anner Hotel, Mary Butler and the organising committee for an occasion to remember.

Back in September, a memorable gala concert celebrating 75 years of musical theatre in Thurles took place in the Premier Hall.

The evening brought together performers from across the decades, with a lovingly curated programme that paid tribute to the many productions staged in Delahunty’s Cinema, the Confraternity Hall and the Premier Hall since 1951, a true celebration of a rich and colourful theatrical journey.

With a proud and storied history, the Society has, from its earliest days, delivered musical theatre of the highest calibre to local audiences.

That love for live performance has been passed down through generations, with today’s theatre-goers often recalling being first introduced to the magic of the stage by parents and grandparents many years ago.

That same sense of continuity and belonging shines brightly on stage too, where many current members proudly follow in the footsteps of family members who once played their own roles under the spotlight.

Rehearsals for their upcoming show, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, are now full swing.

Fresh from the Gala Ball, rehearsals continue at pace for their upcoming production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The society is delighted to welcome on board their Director and Choreographer, Michael Anthony Greene, and is ever grateful to welcome back their Musical Director Mary Rose McNally.

The society says that audiences will be in for a real spectacle as they bring the famous Victor Hugo story to life on the stage.

The show runs from Tuesday, March 24 to Saturday, March 28, and they encourage all to keep an eye on the TMS social media channels for updates on rehearsals and tickets.
