There was great excitement at St Michael’s Girls' National School in Tipperary Town on Wednesday, November 20, as students and teachers welcomed a special guest, Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, the talented Irish rugby player.
The visit was a huge occasion for both students and staff as they had the unique opportunity to meet one of the country’s well known sports stars and past pupil.
Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, who has made a significant impact on the Irish Women’s Rugby team, took time out of her busy schedule to speak to the students about her journey in rugby, her experiences with the national team, and the importance of teamwork, determination, and perseverance.

During the visit, Amee-Leigh shared inspiring stories of her career, beginning with her early days in the sport, through to her rise to the senior ranks of international rugby. She discussed how she balanced training, education, and personal life, offering valuable advice on how young people can pursue their passions while maintaining focus and discipline.
The students were particularly excited to hear about Amee-Leigh’s involvement in major competitions, such as the Women’s Six Nations Championship, and her achievements on the field. Her dedication and passion for rugby shone through, and her words left a lasting impression on the young audience.
In addition to her inspiring talk, Amee-Leigh participated in an interactive Q&A session, where the students asked questions ranging from her training regimen to her favourite rugby moments. There was a genuine sense of admiration for the athlete, and her down-to-earth nature made the event even more memorable.
Amee-Leigh also emphasised the importance of promoting female participation in sports, encouraging the girls of St. Michael's to pursue their athletic interests with confidence. She explained how sports can foster personal growth, build resilience, and help young people form strong, supportive friendships.
The visit was part of the “Dare to Believe” initiative by the Olympic Federation of Ireland as they hope to inspire and motivate students to engage in physical activity, while also providing them with role models who exemplify hard work and dedication.
Principal of St. Michael’s G.N.S., Ms. Íde Mooney, expressed her gratitude for Amee Leigh’s visit, saying, “We are thrilled to have had Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe here today. Her visit has not only inspired our students but also given them the opportunity to connect with someone who embodies the values of hard work and perseverance.
