Tipperary schools present a a night of magic and laughter at Snow White panto

This year’s eagerly anticipated school pantomime, Snow White, presented by St. Anne’s Secondary School and The Abbey School in Tipperary, was an absolute triumph, delighting audiences of all ages with its charm, wit, and energetic performances. The show, which took place at the Simon Ryan Theatre in the Excel Centre, brought together over 100 students in a dazzling display of talent, creativity, and community spirit.

Directed and produced by school staff Cormac Maher and Siobhan O’Donoghue, with musical direction by Ms. Sinead O’Gorman and set design by Ms. Annemarie O’Connor, Snow White was an exceptional achievement that involved students not only on stage but behind the scenes as well. The stage came alive thanks to the choreography by Cole Flanagan and the hard work of the set construction team, including Matthew Crowe, Eoin Halligan, and Jim Ryan. Lighting design by Alan McCormack, with assistance from students Niall Quinn and Matthew Kinane, and the ever-present follow spot operated by Diane Tumasova, ensured the production had a professional touch. The sound, expertly managed by Pat Marnane, rounded out the technical elements that made this pantomime a truly magical experience.

The show opened with Fairy Nuff, played by the wonderful Ella Riordan, who invited the audience to immerse themselves in the fantastical world of the story. From there, Snow White, played by Isabel Slattery, took centre stage as the beautiful princess celebrating her 18th birthday. The story’s comedic heart came from Billy, Snow White’s best friend, played by Lionel Hug, while Diarmuid O’Brien charmed the audience as the dashing Prince Charming.

Supporting roles were filled with an incredible ensemble cast who brought plenty of laughs and colourful personalities to the stage.), Tic (Jack Kissane), Toc (Mark Ryan), and the Huntsman (James Holmes) all contributed to the show’s fun and playful energy. Meanwhile, a delightful collection of characters like Daisy Doolittle (Victoria Brominska), the Magic Mirror (Aine O'Mahony Crowe), Queen Eveline (Carla Pares Pascual), and the quirky members of the “Seven Funky Followers” – Blushful (Erin Chapman), Smiley (Holly Hogan), Narky (Niamh O’Brien), Dozy (Roise Donovan), Burpy (Devlin Allen Coyle), Jokey (Eoin Ryan and Scaredy (Natasha Cussen) – provided endless entertainment and heartwarming moments.

This year’s pantomime marked a departure from the usual musical productions that St. Anne’s and The Abbey School have staged in recent years. However, the decision to bring a classic panto to life was a brilliant one. It allowed students to showcase a wide range of acting, dancing, and comedic skills in an engaging, interactive environment. The lively atmosphere was enhanced by enthusiastic performances, captivating dialogue, and catchy tunes that had the audience singing and clapping along.

Over the course of the three-night run, the show was met with rave reviews from local audiences, including a number of primary schools, nursing homes, and other local second-level schools, who attended special matinee performances. The pupils in the audience truly made their presence known, filling the theatre with their lively energy, enthusiastic singing, and interaction with the performers, making each show an unforgettable experience.

Of course, a production of this scale wouldn’t be possible without the support of local businesses, who generously sponsored the event and provided spot prizes for the nightly raffle.
