Tipperary man named as Arts Council Writer in Residence at University College Cork

Dean Browne's poems have been widely published

Dean Browne has been announced as the Arts Council Writer in Residence at University College Cork.

The Tipperary Town man received the Geoffrey Dearmer Prize in 2020 and his pamphlet, Kitchens at Night, was a winner of the Poetry Business International Pamphlet Competition; it was published by Smith|Doorstop in 2022.

His poems have appeared widely in outlets including The Irish Times, London Magazine, New York Review of Books, Poetry Magazine and Stinging Fly.

His first collection, After Party, is published by Picador and is a Poetry Society Recommendation.

The 2026 Artist in Residence awards, which are jointly funded by the Arts Council and partner universities, provide artists with dedicated workspaces and vital finances to develop their work, acquire resources and further Ireland’s vibrant creative scene. 

 

This year, 12 artists across seven universities will benefit from this flagship programme. Their upcoming work will reflect the diversity and richness of Ireland’s creative landscape, with programmes spanning English and Irish-language Literature, Film, Digital Arts and Traditional Arts.
