'They lost everything they owned': Appeal launched for Tipperary natives after house fire

A fundraiser has been launched to support Tipperary Town natives Margaret and Noel Bolster after a freak house fire left them with nothing.

A fundraiser has been launched to support Tipperary Town natives Margaret and Noel Bolster after a freak house fire left them with nothing.

The couple, who live in Ballysimon, Limerick, lost all of their possessions when the fire broke out at their home on the morning of Friday, January 9.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the incident, although their granddaughter was also in the house at the time.

Margaret and Noel’s children set up a GoFundMe page following the devastating fire, describing the profound impact the loss has had on their parents.

“Their house was not just a house, it was a warm, welcoming home where the door was always open to everyone,” they said.

“Many happy memories were made over the years. To create this home, which they were so proud of, they worked hard over countless years and invested all their time, money and love.

“With our parents now in their 70s, they cannot carry this financial burden alone. We would be so grateful to anyone who can contribute and help us rebuild their home.”

So far, €54,000 has been raised towards a target of €150,000.

Speaking to Tipperary Live, Independent Councillor John O’Heney highlighted the hardship now facing the couple, both of whom are well known in Tipperary Town.

“It was obviously very sad news to hear that Margaret and Noel Bolster’s house had burnt down in a freak fire,” he said.

“They lost everything they owned. Noel is from Redmond Square and Margaret is one of the Witherow's from Blind Street, so many people across Tipperary Town would know them well.

“It’s a very difficult and traumatic situation to lose all your earthly possessions, especially when it happens so unexpectedly and around the Christmas and New Year period.

"We’re delighted that nobody was seriously hurt, either themselves or their granddaughter.

“We’re simply asking people, if they can, to consider donating towards the restoration of their home. I wish Noel and Margaret the very best for the future and hope they have many happy and safe years ahead of them.”

Those wishing to donate can do so here.
