Tipperary County Council has secured funding to improve ICT infrastructure at Carrick Library and a number of other library branches
An upgrade of Carrick-on-Suir Library's broadband infrastructure to improve the speed and reliability and performance of its internet services, is to be completed by the end of the year, Carrick Municipal District’s monthly meeting heard.
County Librarian Damien Dullaghan informed councillors that Tipperary County Council secured Government funding under the Small-Scale Capital Works Grant Scheme in June to upgrade the public network infrastructure of a number of library branches, including Carrick-on-Suir Library.
“The works will include the replacement of key networking equipment and improvements to the existing ICT infrastructure.
In addition, a new fibre connection will be installed for the library's public network as part of these works,”
Mr Dullaghan said it was anticipated upgrades will be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of this year.
“These improvements will enhance the reliability, capacity and performance of digital services available to library users while supporting the continued delivery of public PC, Wi-Fi and My Open Library services,” he said.
Mr Dullaghan was responding to two motions tabled by Cllr Michael 'Chicken' Brennan and Cllr Kieran Bourke calling for an upgrade of Carrick Library's broadband and digital connectivity.
Cllr Bourke said he tabled the motion in response to a complaint he received from a concerned citizien who was unable to work properly in the Library due to its broadband speed but welcomed the County Librarian's response.
