Met Éireann issues weather warning with two counties braced for brutal conditions
Ireland is bracing for some very unsettled weather this week with Met Éireann issuing a Status Yellow rain warning for two counties on Tuesday morning.
The warning has been issued for Cork and Kerry and comes into effect from 2am on Tuesday, lapsing at 8am. The overnight rain could lead to "localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions," according to Met Éireann.
The warning forecast predicts "a spell of heavy rain, coupled with strong and gusty east to southeast winds."
The rest of the country will also endure unsettled conditions with Met Éireann nationwide forecast stating: "Any lingering rain or drizzle in Ulster will mostly clear during the first half of the night [Monday night] leaving mainly dry and cold conditions with clear spells, allowing some patches of frost and ice to form. Some mist and fog patches will also develop in light variable winds. However, cloud will build from the southwest through the second half of the night with wet and windy conditions following towards morning. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees.
"Starting off cloudy with wet and windy conditions moving northwards over the country [on Tuesday]. The rain will be heavy at times. A clearance to dry conditions with sunny spells will follow before showers or further spells of rain push in from the south. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, with fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds easing with the clearance of the rain.

"Breezy with scattered showers or more persistent spells of rain and just limited clear spells [on Tuesday night]. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, with moderate to fresh and gusty southeasterly winds.
"Current indications are that further north will see a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, while further south will be cloudier with more persistent outbreaks of rain on Wednesday]. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, with moderate to fresh easterly winds, stronger on southern and eastern coasts.
"Widespread showers or more persistent spells of rain with limited clear spells [Wednesday night]. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees with light to moderate cyclonic variable winds."
Looking at Thursday, Met Éireann's latest forecast adds: "Current indications are for scattered showers with limited bright spells. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, with light to moderate southeasterly winds.
"The detail is uncertain but current indications are for a breezy day [on Friday] with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers or more persistent outbreaks of rain spreading northwards across the country. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees, with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, stronger on Atlantic coasts."
Their further outlook is equally grim as the current forecast for the weekend and beyond concludes: "While the detail is uncertain, low pressure continuing to dominate, bringing further showers or more persistent spells of rain."
