Lecture to be hosted in Tipperary on the final days of Civil War

The lecture will be held at the Main Guard, Clonmel at 8.15pm next Monday, November 17

Clonmel Historical and Archaeological Society is hosting a lecture by Michael Desmond on ‘The final days of the Civil War on the Knockmealdowns’.

The lecture will be held at the Main Guard, Clonmel at 8.15pm next Monday, November 17.


Following the fatal wounding of General Liam Lynch near Newcastle on April 10 1923, those who were with him - Frank Aiken, Bill Quirke, Sean Hayes, Sean Hyde and Jack O’Mara, were forced to leave him.

They headed towards Mount Melleray, but never reached there.

This lecture will discuss the events of the days following Lynch’s death, what happened to those who left Lynch and the capture of Austin Stack, Todd Andrews, Sean Gaynor and others.
